Driving in winter weather: Be careful out there

Your employees are driving to customers in that winter weather. Here are some tips to keep them safe while keeping customers warm this winter.

When driving on ice:

  • Decrease your usual speed to avoid skidding or collisions.
  • Give yourself at least three times more space to break from the vehicle in front of you.
  • Use low gears to keep traction, especially on hills.
  • Use extra caution on bridges, as they tend to get icier.

When driving in snow:

  • It is important for your truck to sport snow-traction tires, as other tires are inadequate on snow-covered streets.
  • Overturning the steering wheel can lead you to lose control of your vehicle. Make sure you minimize your steering radius to avoid collisions.
  • Watch for black ice, snow can hide this road terror. Gently break over any questionable terrain and avoid hazardous areas as much as possible.

In case of an emergency:

Have a spare, inflated tire and necessary tire-changing equipment: a shovel, jumper cables, a bag of salt or kitty litter, and an ice scraper and snow brush.
